Creating Informative Signage for Three Sisters Preserve
Green Goat Maps partnered with the Adirondack Land Trust to design and produce a kiosk map for the Three Sisters Preserve. This project aimed to enhance visitor navigation, promote conservation awareness, and provide critical information about the preserve’s recreational and ecological significance. The resulting signage is both functional and visually appealing, aligning with the preserve’s mission to balance recreation with stewardship.

To meet the needs of the Adirondack Land Trust and its visitors, Green Goat Maps was contracted to:
Develop a detailed basemap of the Three Sisters Preserve, highlighting trails, topography, waterways, and nearby attractions.
Create interpretive content focused on conservation efforts, recreational guidelines, and the history of the preserve.
Design a visually engaging kiosk panel that integrates the map, illustrations, and interpretive content.
Coordinate with printing vendors to ensure the production of a durable kiosk panel suitable for long-term outdoor use.
The project delivered a high-quality kiosk panel featuring a detailed map of the preserve’s trail system, a locator map for regional context, and interpretive content emphasizing land conservation and visitor safety. The panel was designed with durability in mind, utilizing weather-resistant materials to ensure longevity. Green Goat Maps also provided optional design elements, including infographics and illustrations, to enhance the educational value of the kiosk.
Challenges of This Project
One significant challenge was balancing the need for detailed cartographic and interpretive information with the constraints of a single kiosk panel. The design had to be visually engaging while ensuring readability and accessibility for all visitors. Additionally, coordinating with the Adirondack Land Trust to align content with their mission required careful collaboration and multiple review cycles.
