Town of Franklin Signage

Interactive Kiosks Highlighting Outdoor Recreation and Cultural Heritage

Green Goat Maps collaborated with the Town of Franklin to create kiosks showcasing the town’s diverse outdoor recreational opportunities. The kiosks highlight attractions such as Kate Mountain Park and the Buck Pond Campground and Day Use Area while providing interpretive and wayfinding information for visitors and residents. These kiosks include detailed maps, interpretive content, and cultural insights, ensuring they are both practical and engaging.

A tri-panel brochure for the Town of Franklin, showcasing recreational opportunities, cultural heritage, and natural attractions. The left panel highlights local history, including traditional Haudenosaunee outdoor recreation, while the center panel features a detailed map of parks, easements, and wild forests. The right panel provides information on specific sites like Kate Mountain Park and Buck Pond Campground, along with Leave No Trace principles and outdoor essentials.

To meet the needs of the community, Green Goat Maps was contracted to:

  • Design and produce kiosks to showcase recreational assets such as snowmobile trails, hiking trails, lakefront campsites, and road cycling routes.

  • Include detailed information about allowable and prohibited recreational uses for specific areas and trails.

  • Integrate cultural content about the Haudenosaunee and the Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center in Onchiota.

  • Develop maps highlighting key attractions such as Kate Mountain Park and Buck Pond Campground, with clear wayfinding and interpretive features.

  • Ensure the kiosks are durable and visually appealing, suitable for long-term outdoor use.

The kiosks provide detailed maps and wayfinding content that guide visitors to key recreational sites and provide clarity on permissible uses. They incorporate cultural interpretation to enhance visitor understanding and appreciation of local heritage. Kiosks were installed at key locations, including Franklin Town Hall and Kate Mountain Park, to maximize accessibility and visibility.

Challenges of This Project

One of the primary challenges was balancing information and clarity while showcasing the town’s diverse recreational options, such as snowmobile trails, hiking routes, and lakefront campsites, alongside cultural content about the Haudenosaunee and the Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center. To address this, Green Goat Maps implemented an intuitive layout, clear typography, and a focused approach to content organization to ensure the kiosks remained engaging and user-friendly.

Another challenge involved ensuring the durability and usability of the kiosks, as they were designed for long-term outdoor use in various weather conditions. High-quality, weather-resistant materials were utilized, and the design was crafted to maintain legibility and visual appeal under heavy use and exposure to the elements.

Value for Our Client

These professional, durable installations effectively improve the visitor experience, increase awareness of local attractions, and encourage both residents and tourists to explore Franklin’s natural and cultural treasures. This project highlights Green Goat Maps’ ability to deliver high-quality, user-centered solutions that support community engagement and outdoor exploration.
