Integrating Navigation, Ecology, History, and Regional Context at a 378-Acre Preserve

Overview

The Adirondack Land Trust needed updated visitor information for Westport Preserve in the Champlain Valley. The signage had to orient people on the preserve while explaining the natural and cultural context that makes the property significant. Green Goat Maps combined preserve-scale and regional mapping with interpretive storytelling and custom illustration.

Scope of Work

Green Goat Maps was contracted to create maps of the preserve and surrounding Champlain Valley; develop interpretive content about ecology, history, and recreation; create custom illustrations; design the complete panel layout; and coordinate outdoor-sign production.

Key Deliverables

The project produced two maps, interpretive narratives, illustrations, and a durable trailhead panel installed at the preserve entrance.

Challenges & Solutions

Maps, ecology, history, recreation, and illustration all had to coexist on one sign. Rather than treating every element equally, Green Goat Maps created a clear hierarchy that prioritizes orientation while allowing visitors to explore the interpretive content at their own pace.
