Overview

Elk Lake Lodge operates within a 12,000-acre private preserve containing approximately 40 miles of maintained trails, waterbodies, and wilderness destinations. Guests needed clear navigation in the field, while the Lodge also wanted a map attractive enough for display and digital communication. Green Goat Maps created one cartographic system and adapted it to three very different uses.

Scope of Work

Green Goat Maps was contracted to map the Elk Lake–Clear Pond Preserve, its trail network, waterbodies, landmarks, access points, safety information, and recreational features; create illustrative elements; align the design with Lodge branding; and produce wall-map, portable paper-map, and digital versions.

Key Deliverables

The project delivered a frameable display map for the Lodge, a field map for guests, and a digital version for online use—all derived from a consistent cartographic foundation.

Challenges & Solutions

The challenge was maintaining sufficient detail for a 12,000-acre wilderness property while producing maps that work at dramatically different scales. Green Goat Maps designed the geographic hierarchy first, then adapted labeling and information density to each output rather than simply shrinking the same map.
