Long Pond Preserve Kiosk Map

Trail Mapping and Interpretive Signage for Champlain Area Trails

Green Goat Maps partnered with Champlain Area Trails (CATS) to create a kiosk map for Long Pond Preserve, designed to enhance user navigation and promote CATS’ conservation goals. This project focused on delivering an aesthetically engaging map integrated with interpretive content, showcasing trails and the preserve's unique features.

This informational panel for the Long Pond Trail highlights conservation efforts by Champlain Area Trails (CATS), protecting the forest, watershed, and native habitats around Long Pond. A map outlines trail routes, nearby landmarks, and access points. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy outdoor activities responsibly, following Leave No Trace principles, while exploring this preserved natural area. Contact details for CATS and guidelines for trail use are also provided.

To meet the needs of Champlain Area Trails, Green Goat Maps was contracted to:

  • Draft a detailed base map of Long Pond Preserve using GIS datasets to highlight trails, water features, and points of interest.

  • Develop interpretive content emphasizing land stewardship, recreational safety, and local conservation efforts.

  • Design a kiosk panel layout incorporating the map and illustrations to create an engaging visual experience.

  • Coordinate with printing vendors to ensure the panel is durable and weather-resistant for long-term outdoor use.

Green Goat Maps delivered a professionally designed kiosk map that blends precise cartography with interpretive content. The map accurately represents the trail network, water features, and nearby roads, complemented by educational material highlighting the preserve’s conservation goals and recreational opportunities. The kiosk panel was printed on vinyl-wrapped Di-Bond material, ensuring durability and weather resistance, and featured a polished design that aligns with CATS’ branding.

Challenges of This Project

Balancing comprehensive trail details with a visually clear design posed a significant challenge. Additionally, creating interpretive content that effectively communicates CATS’ conservation message while engaging a diverse audience required strategic collaboration and iterations with stakeholders. These challenges were successfully overcome through a detailed design and review process.

Value for Our Client

Champlain Area Trails gained a high-quality kiosk panel that enhances visitor experiences and supports their mission of promoting land conservation and multi-use trails. The map’s accuracy and visual appeal make it an invaluable tool for wayfinding, education, and community engagement, helping CATS achieve its goal of fostering stewardship and sustainable recreation.
