Mountain Bike Trail Mapping and Trailhead Kiosks for the Town of Long Lake

The Town of Long Lake, New York, wanted to improve visitor orientation at the Mt. Sabattis Recreation Area, a mountain biking and shared-use trail system located close to the center of town. With two primary trail launch areas, the Town needed a clear map and coordinated kiosks that could help mountain bikers, hikers, families, and visitors quickly understand the trail system.

Green Goat Maps developed a custom large-format trail map and kiosk system that emphasizes

the information riders need most: trail difficulty, directional flow, mileage, loop connections, access points, and trailhead locations. Two versions of the map were created using the same design, with the “You Are Here” location adjusted for each trailhead so visitors receive consistent information no matter where they enter the system.

The kiosks were also designed to connect Mt. Sabattis with the larger Long Lake community. In addition to trail orientation and safety information, the design provides opportunities to introduce the history of the trail system. The 36" x 48" panels use a strong visual hierarchy and accessibility-conscious design so information can be understood quickly at an outdoor trailhead.

By combining detailed mountain bike cartography with interpretive and community information, the project gives Long Lake a coordinated trailhead system that helps visitors choose appropriate routes while encouraging them to explore more of the community surrounding Mt. Sabattis.
