Map of Schroon Lake

Designing a Comprehensive Map Solution for Schroon Lake Association

Green Goat Maps collaborated with the Schroon Lake Association to design and produce a detailed map of Schroon Lake, aimed at enhancing recreational accessibility and public outreach. This project focused on creating an easy-to-read, waterproof map that highlights the lake’s features, including bathymetry, boating aids, and nearby recreational amenities. The map serves multiple purposes, including educational outreach, supporting local businesses, and promoting responsible recreational practices.

A detailed navigation map of Schroon Lake, showcasing its surrounding wilderness areas, including Hoffman Notch and Pharaoh Lake. The map highlights trails, campsites, boat launches, and key landmarks like Eagle Point Campground. It includes topographic details, lake statistics, and a legend for clear navigation, providing valuable information for outdoor recreation in the Adirondack region.

To meet the needs of SLA and the local community, Green Goat Maps was contracted to:

  • Create a detailed map of Schroon Lake, including bathymetry, navigational aids, and recreational features.

  • Design an engaging layout for the map cover and backside, incorporating educational content on invasive species prevention and lake history.

  • Print and deliver 2,000 waterproof maps for distribution to local businesses and community members.

  • Provide optional tri-fold brochures derived from the map design for additional outreach.

This project resulted in a detailed, visually appealing map of Schroon Lake. The map includes bathymetric details, navigational aids, and annotations of recreational areas, such as boat launches and picnic spots. The backside of the map features educational content, including invasive species prevention tips and historical insights about Schroon Lake. Additionally, Green Goat Maps produced a tri-fold brochure option to expand the outreach potential of the map content. The map and brochures were printed on durable, waterproof materials, ensuring long-term usability for outdoor enthusiasts.

Challenges of This Project

One of the main challenges was balancing the level of detail required for navigation and education with the need for a clean and user-friendly design. Additionally, ensuring the map’s durability and clarity when printed on waterproof paper required meticulous attention to material quality and layout design. Collaborating with SLA to align the map’s content with community goals and conservation messaging added another layer of complexity.

Value for Our Client

The Schroon Lake Association benefited from a high-quality, multi-purpose map that enhances the lake’s recreational appeal while promoting environmental stewardship. The map supports SLA’s outreach efforts by educating the public about invasive species prevention and the historical significance of Schroon Lake.
